Kyle Simmers is a Calgary based artist and illustrator born and raised in a special kind of Nowhere. Their work explores identity and relationships in the context of gender, queerness, subjectivity and relativity.

In my portraiture practice I approach subjects as they exist in relationship to another. A person in isolation has no definable qualities, their identity emerges in relationship to other characters, their context and to myself as an observer. I challenge roles in traditional storytelling to emphasize human relationships over humdrum narrative.

People think that nothing happens in a small town, but that is like saying that nothing happens in a Sofia Coppola Film.
